THE MORE AGENDA OF GOVERNOR SHERIFF IS MORE FOR ALL DELTANS. 23rd June 2026.

1. Atleast 75% of collated requests from stakeholders during community engagements are for roads, jetties and similar infrastructure.

2. ⁠If the roads and bridges were not needed, they will not have been awarded.

3. ⁠The Police stations are not for FG. They are in preparation for and in anticipation of the take off of State Police. Security is a big issue in the State.

4. ⁠Agriculture is getting the right traction and boost. As we speak private firms are in partnership with state and large hectares of land are currently under cultivation in Ugbakele, Aviara and Orerokpe areas for cassava and vegetables using green houses. These are not wishful thinking but facts! For the kind of impact we all want, agriculture and its practice has to be commercialized and driven with private capital and discipline. The same approach has been adopted for palm fruits under the Delcom initiative. Again this can be authenticated. It’s a PPP arrangement with a Malaysian company, with the counterparties being private and ordinary Deltans and their communities. It is pertinent to state that most of the supposedly large parcels of land referred to are actually encumbered.

5. ⁠Development is gradual and piece by piece, no one can possibly take on the entire garmount in one fell swoop. It’s is impracticable! Lagos that is now a model, has been on that trajectory since the time of Jakande/ Tinubu and it is still evolving.

6. ⁠Delta is a multi town and multi ethnic state. It is mini Nigeria of sorts! So while some of us are complaining of only roads, bridges and flyovers, other communities are pushing and requesting for same to be built in their areas – afterall they are all Deltans! It therefore behoves any responsible govt to ensure a fine balance and senatorial spread as much as possible. These infrastructure are very costly especially in the riverine communities because of terrain.

7. ⁠As a people, we must learn to be patient and considerate especially of others. We appreciate the concerns and the passion of our people for the state to transform. The govt is doing everything within practicable limits to achieve that. Afterall, which govt wouldn’t like to be praised and supported by its people?!

8. ⁠As for companies and jobs, it is a genuine concern and worry of all including the govt. If we are honest, most of the companies that exited the state with their job opportunities were private. They relocated to other cities. Can we ask ourselves why?! We all know the answer I dare say! Unfortunately, we appear not to have learnt our lessons! Most investors will have nothing to do with and completely avoid any area of consistent conflict or deemed high security risk. It’s a major turn off for any would be investor! Check the travel advisory of most western embassies and you see what we are up against. With that kind of narrative even local investors become extra cautious. It’s the reality of our world and I dare say, we are all directly/ indirectly complicit. So it will take our collective effort to fix. The responsibility of govt is to provide the enabling environment – albeit infrastructure and security.

9. ⁠Development is a work in progress, it is a continuum, it keeps evolving and has no finite timeline. So we must keep working at it one piece at a time, inline with an underlining super structure of a proper plan that will take us to the envisioned destination. It cannot be rushed, but we must be delibrate.

10. ⁠Yes, the govt may not be perfect, yes there are still alot more work to be done, yes some sectors are getting a lot more attention, but there is no denying the fact that, this is one of the most transformational administration if not the most, in the recent history of the state. It is not my verdict, but that those of the people on the streets!

11. ⁠Let us therefore close ranks, criticize objectively, promote peace and brotherliness amongst us and in our communities, market Delta State as the investor destination of choice and see what Delta will become in the next five years under this administration.
