We don't want cattle grazing in our farmlands- Elders of Idumueno Community warn cattle rearers. By ISAN ISIOMA CARLOS

Elders of Idumueno Community in Alisimie , Agbor, in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, have warned cattle rearers in the area not to allow their cattles to graze in their farmlands.

This warning was given during the elders and community council meeting at Ogwa Aliogor in Idumeno Quarters of Alisimie Community in Agbor .

Speaking during the meeting , the Onu Odion of Alijematan Quarters, Elder Donatus Ebie said that the wanton destruction of farm crops and farmlands as a result of cattle grazing in the area has continued to become a threat to their economic lives particularly, the crops in their farmlands.

He reiteratered that the grazing of cows by rearers in the community have caused a serious damage to their crops and have continued to pose a serious potential danger to the farmers particularly, to the women who are now reluctant to go to their farms as a result of fear of not being attacked by the cattle rearers.

The warning came following the arrest of one of the Cattle Rearers who identified himself as Mallam Baba Baju, an Hausa man from Kano State who was caught with 43 Cows in the community farmland.

He was apprehended by members of the community after a hot chase .While his colleague escaped with the the cows.

The community members who refused to beat him up, ordered him to call the owner of the cows to come and assess the level of the damages which the cows have done to the crops in the community Farmland for settlement.

“The community he said would enter a legal agreement with them ( rearers )and that they would also take a legal action against any violator of the community laws and warnings

He stated that Idumueno Community is made up of Aliogor , Alijematan, Alimokwe and Asogban Quarters of Alisimie Community in Agbor in the same council area of the state .

Pleading with the community to temper justice with mercy, the leader of the members of Hausa Community that visited the community, Mallam Sani Usman pleaded with the community to allow the rearer ( Mallam Baju) who was apprehended .by the members of the Community to gain his freedom.

While apologizing for the wrongs done to the community, he promised that , the rearers would settle with the community to ensure total peace with the community members
